Download Display Driver Uninstaller for Windows

Display Driver Uninstaller removes graphics driver packages and leftover components. Use it for a deliberate clean reinstall when ordinary removal is insufficient.

A targeted cleanup before reinstalling a driver

Display Driver Uninstaller, usually called DDU, is Wagnardsoft's utility for removing graphics drivers and their remaining components. It is intended for situations such as a failed ordinary uninstall or a planned clean driver reinstall. The operation can remove related files, folders, registry entries and driver-store data. It is a maintenance tool with a specific purpose, rather than a routine performance booster to run after every game session.

A display problem does not automatically mean the installed driver must be removed. Start by identifying the hardware and recording the symptom. GPU-Z can help identify the graphics adapter before you obtain a replacement package. A crash caused by unstable hardware, inadequate cooling or another application may remain after a clean reinstall. DDU does not repair a graphics card or promise higher frame rates.

Download and prepare before cleanup

DDU is free. The verified release is 18.1.6.1 and requires .NET Framework 4.8. The developer lists Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11 in 32-bit and 64-bit editions. Check the release notes for your particular hardware, especially if it is an unusual or newly supported platform. Download through Wagnardsoft's own release page and extract the package to a location you can find again.

Obtain the intended replacement driver before removing the existing one. For a laptop, check the computer manufacturer's guidance because integrated and discrete graphics can share a customized configuration. Create a restore point or other suitable backup and save your work. Record which graphics vendor you are cleaning. If Windows automatically installs a driver during your procedure, the expected clean state may change before you install your chosen package.

Run with the developer's recommended precautions

Wagnardsoft recommends Safe Mode for stability, although the utility can also run in normal Windows mode. Plan how to enter and leave Safe Mode before starting. Open DDU, read the displayed options and choose the relevant graphics device type and vendor. Avoid selecting unrelated components just because an option is available. The current release includes advanced options whose consequences should be understood before changing them.

For a reinstall on the same machine, use the cleanup action that restarts Windows when appropriate. If you are physically changing hardware, choose the workflow suited to that job and follow the hardware manufacturer's handling instructions. During driver removal, the display may temporarily lose its usual resolution or features. This is not evidence that the new driver has already been installed successfully.

Finish the reinstall and check the original symptom

After cleanup and restart, install the replacement driver you prepared. Restart again if its installer requests it. Confirm the expected adapter and driver in Windows, then test the activity that originally failed. Keep notes about the old and new versions; changing several unrelated system settings at once makes it harder to tell what helped.

Snappy Driver Installer Origin handles a different task: finding and installing driver packages. DDU specializes in removal and does not provide the replacement graphics driver itself. Prefer the device or PC manufacturer's appropriate package when planning a graphics reinstall. If the fault persists, stop repeating the same cleanup loop and investigate the other possible causes with the evidence collected.

Questions and answers

Does DDU install a new graphics driver?

No. DDU removes driver packages and associated remnants. Download the intended replacement from the appropriate hardware or computer manufacturer before cleanup, then install that package separately after the removal and restart.

Must I use Safe Mode?

The developer recommends Safe Mode for the most stable cleanup, although normal mode is supported. Plan how to enter and leave it, save your work and prepare the replacement driver before starting.

Will DDU improve gaming performance?

There is no guaranteed performance increase. It can help prepare a clean driver reinstall when existing driver components are a problem, but it does not repair hardware, improve cooling or resolve every game crash.
