A readable starting point for a hardware question
When someone asks which motherboard or memory your computer uses, Speccy offers a more organised answer than a collection of labels from different Windows screens. The utility inventories hardware and presents a summary alongside individual component pages. It belongs to the Piriform/CCleaner product family, now within Gen Digital. Use it to prepare a support conversation, document a home PC or check the details behind an advertised specification.
The summary gives you a starting list of processor, memory, graphics and storage information. Open the relevant category for more detail instead of sending a screenshot of every section. Before buying a replacement part, record the exact motherboard or computer model and consult the manufacturer’s compatibility information. An inventory can identify a component, but it cannot promise that a proposed upgrade fits the case, firmware or power supply.
What the free edition covers
Speccy Free provides hardware information without requiring a paid upgrade for ordinary inspection. Professional adds services such as automatic updates and priority support. The official comparison specifies that both Free and Professional are for home use only. A business should use the appropriate business offering rather than assume that paying for the home Professional edition grants workplace rights.
Speccy is an information utility, not a driver updater or a disk cleaner. Some paid bundles advertise additional applications with those functions, which should not be attributed to the standalone program. Likewise, a sensor value shown next to a component is not a health certificate. Temperature availability depends on supported hardware, and unexpected values deserve verification before you decide that a part must be replaced.
Download and install for your system
The official requirements page lists Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista and XP, in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions, excluding Windows RT tablets. It does not explicitly list Windows 11 in that table, so this page does not turn the omission into a guaranteed support claim. Check the current vendor information if you intend to use it on a system outside the published list.
Choose the Free download on the official Speccy page if you need the basic inventory. Save and open the installer, read its options and finish setup. Launch the application and wait for the initial scan before using the results. Check that the machine and components you expected are shown. If a recent device is not identified clearly, treat the uncertainty as a reason to cross-check rather than fill in a guessed model yourself.
Share only the detail that helps
Speccy can save results as a snapshot, XML or text. A saved record is useful when the person helping you cannot sit in front of the PC. Review its contents before posting it publicly, because hardware and system identifiers may be more information than your question requires. Explain the symptom alongside the report; a component list alone does not show exactly when a crash occurred.
CPU-Z is a useful cross-check for processor and RAM details. HWiNFO provides a more extensive environment for following supported sensors under load. Keep Speccy for the task it handles well: collecting readable system information into one place. After recording the details, make upgrade and troubleshooting decisions from the manufacturer’s documentation and reproducible observations rather than a single summary value.
