Choose a question before choosing a test
A restart during rendering does not automatically identify the faulty component. OCCT provides separate test workloads and monitoring so you can investigate a more specific question. OCBASE develops the software for hardware stability testing, with CPU, memory and graphics tests among its tools. A benchmark compares performance under its settings; an error-detecting test looks for problems under a chosen workload. Those results should not be treated as interchangeable.
Start by describing the symptom and recording the current configuration. If a crash began after changing memory settings, that suggests a different starting point from visual corruption in a game. Run one relevant test with documented options instead of launching the most demanding combined load simply because it is available. A passing result covers that run, not every application and operating condition the computer may encounter.
Understand what the Personal edition includes
OCCT Personal provides its core testing and monitoring functions free for personal, non-commercial use. The free edition limits tests to one hour and includes a waiting period between tests. Supporter options remove those restrictions and add features such as detailed reports and stability certificates. They remain personal editions; paying for a supporter tier does not convert it into a business license.
Professional or commercial work requires the appropriate Pro, Enterprise or Enterprise+ license. That distinction matters for a repair shop, a system-building business or workplace diagnostics. Read the current comparison before selecting an edition. Do not treat a certificate or an uneventful test session as a warranty that a machine can never fail; the tested conditions and configuration remain part of the result.
Prepare the computer for a deliberate workload
Save open documents and close unrelated tasks before starting. Check that cooling works, note the initial temperatures and keep the test window accessible. These workloads intentionally create sustained demand. Stop if you observe abnormal temperatures, errors, instability or physical warning signs. A system already showing a failed fan or repeated emergency shutdowns should be inspected before another heavy test is attempted.
The developer’s Windows listing specifies a 64-bit Windows 10 system, a 64-bit CPU, 4 GB RAM and 500 MB of available storage. Graphics requirements depend on the selected test; the listing includes DirectX 12. OCCT also has Linux builds, but this page’s download instructions concern Windows. An application requirement is not a recommendation to allocate every available byte to a memory test.
Download and review one run
Choose the stable Windows Personal package on OCBASE if its license fits your use. The developer offers portable use; place the downloaded program or extracted files in a writable folder and open the launcher. Let system detection finish, select the relevant test and inspect its parameters before starting. Set a manageable duration for an initial observation rather than treating a longer run as automatically better.
When finished, record the test type, duration, detected errors and the exact configuration. Compare changes one at a time. HWiNFO helps explain individual sensors when you need a broader hardware view. FurMark offers a more focused graphics stress workload, which still does not replace a real-game check. OCCT can make an instability reproducible; it cannot by itself prove which physical part must be replaced.
